- Mar 07, 2017 Some of the plugins that no longer load in Firefox, even though they may be installed on your computer, include Java, Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe Acrobat. End of Flash support: Like other browsers and Adobe, Firefox ended Flash support at the end of 2020. Please see End of support for Adobe Flash for more information.
- I am using Firefox ESR 52.1.0 on a MacBook. I was on Mac OS High Sierra and Silverlight was working on Safari until I installed Safari 12. At that point Firefox ESR 52.1.0 still ran Silverlight. I along with other users of a company Silverlight application have updated to Mac OS Mojave.
- The Firefox 52.0 and later Releases on Windows, Mac OSX and Linux only allows the Flash Player Plugin to run. You should be able to use the Firefox 52.0 ESR to use Silverlight and other Plugins as if you were using Firefox 51.0 and older whether on Windows, Mac OSX or Linux.

Jan 16, 2020 Silverlight is compatible with all the different web browser products used on Windows and Mac OS X computer operating systems, including Safari, Firefox, Sea Monkey, and Internet Explorer, although you may need to download a previous version of Silverlight to be compatible with older computer operating systems. Silverlight will reach the end of support on October 12, 2021. Silverlight development framework is currently only supported on Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11, with support for Internet Explorer 10 ending on January 31, 2020. Over the past few years, Firefox has implemented various Web APIs so that websites can do the same things they’ve always done without plugins, so you will most likely not notice any change to your browsing experience.
The internet is full of websites that go beyond static pages, such as video, sound and games. While NPAPI plugins, especially Flash, have helped enable these interactive pages, they also make your browsing slower, less secure and more likely to crash.
